Founded in 1905 by Gozaemon Masunaga, Masunaga Optical pioneered eyeglass manufacturing in Fukui, Japan — now home to 97% of Japan's optical frame production and one of the world's top three manufacturing regions. Starting from humble beginnings, Gozaemon built a guild-like system that grew the craft across the entire region.
From the K3 to the Masters of Craft collection, what sets Masunaga apart today is being the only Japanese company to handle all 200+ production steps entirely in-house — from raw materials to finished frames — allowing for unmatched quality control. Their founding mission, to make excellent eyeglasses above all else, even at a loss, still guides the company over 120 years later.
